Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

Fantastic Image Display
By tbone
The picture on this TV was stunning right out of the box. After a few minor adjustments it was as close to perfect as I could imagine. It came with the SQ01 panel and it would be hard to differentiate the color depth and quality from some of the plasma sets I looked at. The TV is in a very bright room and the matte screen cuts out glare with no picture degradation. The viewing angle is very good, though we are never more than 25 to 30 degrees off center. The picture is very stable from channel to channel with no change in the back lighting that I can see, and the standard definition picture is almost HD quality when using the 16:9 picture format. It has separate settings for processing speed and anti-judder for motion blur when using the Custom view mode, unlike the majority of sets that combine both settings into one. I watch a lot of sports and really don't notice motion blur at 60hz so its certainly not an issue at 120hz. I'm not a gamer, so for my viewing habits I see no need to spend more for a 240hz option. The sound is very good for normal TV viewing. It can be connected to a home network and I have also hooked it up to my laptop using the VGA connection to watch Netflix and even that produces an acceptable SD picture. There are multiple picture settings you can use to suit just about any programming source, including watching at 120hz without the "soap opera" effect that some people find so annoying. There are 4 HDMI and 2 USB connections, plus one for headphones. There is no S video so you may need cables to hook up older external equipment. UVerse is the programming source.
One thing about settings. The first evening the picture suddenly got much darker and even though I would reset the brightness, it would get dark again once I left the menu. I spoke with Samsung and they had no idea why this was happening. It turns out this set automatically adjusts the picture to your room brightness in the Standard viewing mode, which is the factory default. You can change this in the Eco portion of the picture menu to never go below a certain brightness level or you can turn it off completely. This is not an issue when using any other viewing mode.
The last time I bought a LCD I continued to look around in case I found something better. That will not be the case this time as I am completely satisfied. Pilot shipping through Amazon was great. They delivered on time, set up the TV and swivel stand, and had everything working in 5-10 minutes.
Added note on Warranty: If you purchase an item with your Amazon Visa, or pretty much any credit card from a major bank, it extends the manufacturer's warranty 100% over the original duration (one year to two, etc.) at no cost. Amazon verified this but check with your bank if you use a non-Amazon card.

A Home Theater Centerpiece
By J. Hopkins
Firstly, it's important to point out that I was shopping strictly for a high quality 1080p display. I have a home theater with external speakers and an advanced learning remote so the TV's audio quality and stock remote played an insignificant role in my decision to purchase this model. Now then, the LN46C630 was the best 46" 1080p display I could find that had all the features I was looking for. My criteria were for a model with 120hz, an adequate amount of HDMI inputs (4), a pc input, largely tweakable picture controls, excellent black levels, an absence of motion blur, and a cost of under $1000. This TV possesses all of those things, and beat out the competition of similar LG and Sony models because of what I deemed to be the cleanest, most well defined image, along with superior black levels. The only thing I felt lacking on this TV was the screen texture which is more prone to glare. Though, because my room is quite dark that was of no real concern either, but could be to others with more ambient light in there viewing room.
Here are a couple features I learned about only after I had the set that may be useful in making a decision.:
-The TV has Eco Sensor which will automatically adjust the brightness of the TV based on the ambient light of the room. No worries, this CAN easily be turned off, and is definitely something to be aware of.
-In the Advanced settings menu there are 2 expert patterns that you can use to dial in your picture settings. One is a contrast / brightness pattern, the other a color pattern.
-If you'll be using the TV's speakers there is volume equalization which adjusts the volume automatically as you switch channel to channel.
-You can stream media to this TV through your wired LAN or from an external USB storage device. if you want to do wireless, you'll need Samsung's optional wireless adapter.
-The stock remote has a very narrow IR stream. You'll want to point it not at the center of the screen as most people do, but at the bottom right corner. It works fantastic once you learn to do that.
Some other important notes I'd mention to those that purchase this model:
-At default levels the contrast is maxed out to 100 for every input. I and many others refer to this as "torch mode". That setting will shorten the life of your TV immensely and it needs to be adjusted first thing for each input. While properly calibrating your TV is more than I care to get into here (and pointless since every display is different as well as every input), a setting of 50 contrast and 50 brightness is good place to start for those that don't have any other means of calibrating it more precisely. I also lowered the back light from a default 14 to 10.
-Under the picture options there is a setting called Auto Motion Plus. This is what controls motion blur. Familiarize yourself with the effects of this control. If you are like me it's going be disturbing to have this control on "Standard' to view bluray movies because it removes the natural blur of the camera moving and panning which to me is an annoyance. I use the "Clear" mode or just turn it off for movies.
-Also the effects of the sharpness control only add noise to your image, use the sharpness control very judiciously. I have mine all the way down to a setting of 9.
All in all this is a fantastic set for the price. The very minor issues it has are far outweighed by the price, the amazing picture quality, and the tremendous control you have over adjusting the image to your liking.

It has great potential
By rainmakr
I first ordered this set in early August and I really wanted to like this television. It is easy to set up, it has a good remote, and the built-in speakers are acceptable. At first glance, the picture is very good (once taken out of "torch mode" and the "soap opera effect" has been minimized by turning off (or minimizing) the Auto Motion Plus feature. The backlit remote is nice, but not *all* of the buttons are lit. I'm not sure why, and there were times when I needed the unlit ones. And, being unfamiliar with the remote, had to turn on/up the room lights to see what I was doing. But, the main problem I encountered with this set was the color uniformity.
After having watched for a week and having some time to get past my initial awe at how good this set seemed to be, I noticed a flaw in the left side of the picture. When panning a football field, I saw that the left 6" or so of the screen was lighter than the rest. And when viewing scenes that had a lot of red in them, the left 6" of the screen was significantly lighter than the rest of the screen. Note that I was sitting about 8' away, dead center -- off-axis viewing was not the issue.
I tried to ignore it, but finally created some solid color slides and viewed them using the television's built-in slide-show feature. What I found was that the left side was significantly lighter than the rest of the screen. It wasn't very noticeable on blue slides, but was very prominent on red and green slides, though bright reds & greens were less of an issue. I kept the TV second week, trying to get past it, but the problem was distracting when watching football. And, when watching interviews with "America's Got Talent" judges, their skin tone and the red backdrop was frequently discolored (interviews were usually framed with the face on the left side of the screen).
I asked Amazon for a replacement, which they sent without a problem and at their expense (as was the return shipping). The replacement set I received was better. But, again about a week after having the set, I noticed the same problem (though not as pronounced). Again, I tried to get past it -- not only did I not want to deal with a return, but didn't want to deal with researching a replacement make and model.
Just when I thought I could live with it, I noticed a 2" (approx.) vertical stripe on the left side of the screen. The stripe was a section of panel that was brighter than the rest of the panel. It had hard edges, indicating to me that it was a panel problem. During most shows I didn't notice it; but, it was very prominent during a few dark scenes of Up, Star Trek, and a few others.
Again, I loaded the color slides I had made, which revealed light leakage (or clouding, whatever it's called), similar to the first set. It also revealed the stripe in quite a few of the slides. Considering the price of this television, I called Amazon and asked to return it. I was offered a replacement, which I considered, but ultimately decided to return it and get something else (Panasonic TC-P46G25).
For those wondering, labels on both sets (and the boxes they came in) indicated an AA02 panel.
Summary:
-------
PROS:
- adequate sound quality from built-in speakers
- decent remote
- picture mode button on remote (Vivid, movie, etc)
- Sleep button on remote
- backlit remote
- back of television has a kensington lock slot
- non-glare screen is very good in rooms with a lot of windows & ambient light
CONS:
- not all buttons on remote are backlit
- default Auto Motion Plus (AMP) setting results in a horrible "soap opera" effect
- color/picture uniformity
Notes about the "Amazon experience":
- I had no problems with the local delivery company, which was CEVA for me
- Amazon paid all shipping costs, both ways
- Amazon did not give me any hassle at any time

Ranked Second in Best 40 - 49 inch HDTV
If you prefer LCD over plasma but don’t want to splurge on a much more expensive LED-backlit model, the Samsung LN46C630 is an excellent all-around choice that combines great performance with a sleek design and relatively low price. Picture quality is top-notch for a conventional LCD TV, offering solid black level performance and great color..
1st LCD and Loving It
Pros: 46" is perfect size. Lots of connection options. Great sound and picture. Light weight, so easy to move around.
Cons: Very Dark Scenes are sometimes hard to see. This is our 1st LCD tv, so we don't have similar tvs to compare. Still, for the size, it's a lot easier to move around compared to the non-flat screen tvs. 46" seemed to be the best choice for size for main living room tv, but would work in other smaller rooms as well. We were surprised to find that not all "widescreen" presentations didn't take up the full screen. There are options to change the size, but not all of them seem to make sense. Still, it's much better than what we've had before. Picture quality is great, except that some very dark scenes are harder to view at times. Perhaps we need to work on changing more settings to fix that problem though. Viewing HD channels almost seems too real at times. It's amazing how clear they can be compared to the standard channels. Definitely happy that we got this tv with it's number of connections, because we had two game systems, cable, and dvd player to hook up to it. It's also easy to find how to change these sources on the remote control. The initial setup was pretty easy as well. Price was decent when compared to the more expensive LED tvs. Still, they appeared to be too bright in the stores, so we went for the recommendation to get this more "popular" LCD tv. Overall, we are very satisfied with this purchase and would recommend it to others. Enjoy! :)

Pros: Picture, remote, tweakability, 120hz, price
Cons: Wont pass digital audio out SPDIF port from external source.Bought this TV from Best Buy on Saturday and went home and set it up. Check out the reviews on this model from CNet to get some detailed goodies, but here is my $.02. The picture is AMAZING! Especially on my Xbox which is a 1080p source. My DirecTV is still analog, so, you know, so so. Use the "Clear" setting on the "TruMotion" to keep it from looking like a home video. And ppl, DO NOT WORRY that it is a flourescent backlight! Most LED backlights are only around the edge and hurt more than they help. The few LED TVs that have a full LED array behind the screen, with local dimming, are good, don't get me wrong, but they are the flagship models and cost twice what this TV does. This TV has all the tweakability goodies that the top of the line Samsungs have, as well as a back-lit remote; unheard of in this price range. It was easy to put together the base and connect everything, and then the TV did it's "Plug & Play" setup, which found all the sources and channels. It was fun to turn on the ambient light sensor and then turn the lights on and off to see the TV dim and brighten by itself. Which brings me to 2 very small cons: When the Ambient Light Sensor is on, it seems to occasionally interfere with my DTV remote. I turn it off and the remote will work fine again. Also, I expected to plug all of my digital sources into the TV via HDMI and then send one Optical Digital…

One of the Best Pictures I've Seen!
Purchased the Sony 46" LED LCD 46EX710 yesterday for $999. Took it back this morning and picked up this one.
WOW! This is the picture quality i was hoping for when I orginally purchased the Sony LED just to get let down.Honestly, you could if you chose to, not have to calibrate this TV and simply adjust the Clear Motion settings to be a bit more natural. That's how great this picture quality is. The colors pop and blacks are excellent. Moving away from the center of set doesn't wash out the picture like the Sony LED did. While there is no Internet , there is a RJ45 connection however it might be for updates. One nice feature on this set is the ability to custimize the Clear Motion settings to your liking. Most sets give you two or three options with an off option. This set gives you that plus the ability to play with Clear Motion so that it works for you.Sound is what you'd expect from an LCD. Most people have surround sounds or soundbars nowadays anyway. I have an old Bose Cinemate (07 Model) and unfortunately Samsung got rid of the RCA Out connections. It did have a 3.5mm audio out so all i had to do was purchase an $8 adapter at Radio Shack to connect my Bose. This LCD is a great buy! I moved up from a 40" Sony LCD (120hz, 1080p) and going up in size has not reduced the quality of the picture at all. If anything this set actually even looks better than my old 40" Sony. Great job Samsung!

Great tv for price.
Pros: Back-lit remote, Bright image, Dark blacks, Loud internal speakers, Low glare, Overall picture quality, Overall sound quality, Price, Sharp detail, Stereo headphone output ... Cons: Possible input lag Wanted a new TV mainly for watching tv, netflix, and playing call of duty online. Was looking at plasmas because of minimal input lag but burn in from video game menus was a concern. I love Samsung. Their TV's always seem to have the best image detail, great brightness, and almost excessive color. I will mostly focus on the negatives since the positive are obvious when you view it in the store next to any other TV thats not a higher end Samsung. For fps video games the tv is not bad. It would be great except for a slight bit of input lag that i believe most Samsung leds have. 120 hz is great for viewing all but fps where lag may be noticed. Turning off the 120 hz puts it at 60 hz although it is first hard to find this option. I think input lag is only about 1-2ths of a second in 60 hz mode so as long as your not too much of a perfectionist it's fine for video games. Server or internet lag is much more noticeable. The blacks are really dark. I think the blacks sometimes come across as unrealistically dark because they tv is so bright. I prefer viewing it in a brighter room so I can see the darks and whites without pupal dilation, lol. The remote is easy to read and has a back-light option for use in the dark. Also has picture size and picture mode short cut buttons. Wish…
Great TV for gaming, sports, and blu-ray
Pros: Phenomenal picture quality, priced right
Cons: SpeakersI bought this TV about a month ago to replace an old Sharp 32" LCD that had stopped working. I also had recently moved into a new house with a much larger living room, so I wanted to upgrade in screen size.My primary interest in the TV purchase was to have a TV that would work great for video games. I have an Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii all plugged into this TV. Due to the fact that I have 3 video game systems hooked up to the TV and that I have FiOS cable, I couldn't care less about the TV having internet connectivity, widgets, or any of that stuff.I also was crossing shopping this TV with the 46" offerings from Sony and LG, as well as the Panasonic plasmas. After evaluating reviews and going with what I thought was the best picture I chose this Samsung.I could not be happier. The picture and features on this TV blow me away. Auto Motion Plus seems to work great for gaming and sports, be it football, basketball, or hockey, but Auto Motion Plus does make normal TV shows look amusingly awkward. This feature can easily be toggled on and off when necessary though.…

Great TV at a great price
Pros: Picture quality, Features, Great price, Samsung quality
Cons: Sound is average for a flat screen TV, but acceptable for most. If your an audiophile, add a soundbar or home theaterI originally went to the store a month ago to buy an LED TV, but found this LCD TV on sale. After comparing the picture quality, features, and price, I could not justify the extra money for the LED TV. This was my first "flat screen" TV and I couldn't be happier with my choice! I'm an avid movie/tv watcher and enjoy to playing video games with my kids. The picture is bright and crisp and can see no blurring when I watch sports on TV. The contrast ratio is adequate and the colors are vivid. Although this TV is thicker than an LED, there is no white light in the corners of the TV during very dark scenes like my friend's LED TV. The TV sits atop an A/V cabinet built for flat screens (I have too many home theater devices such as DVD/Blueray player, gaming systems, DVR, etc. to use a wall mount). For these reasons, the thickness of the TV is negligible to me.
My only complaint is the sound from the TV. While the sound is as good as what I have come to expect from flat screen TV's, the audiophile in me needs more. I paired this TV with a Samsung HWC450 Soundbar with remote sub and couldn't be more pleased. I am able to control both the TV and the Soundbar with either remote. Bestbuy gave me an extra $$ discount for buying the TV and Soundbar together...both of which were both on sale as well.…

Great TV at a great price
Pros: Picture quality, ease of set up
Cons: Sound quality could be improvedBought this tv for $900 and was given a $50 BB gift card at the point of purchase. I immediatly got it home and connected it to watch a football game and the picture was amazing. We use it to play Wii and watch Blu Rays on our Samsung Blu Ray player. The connectivity with Samsung devices is great because it knows when you put in a Blu Ray or DVD to change the input and start to play it. The picture on the TV is great, the only thing that needs to get a bit better is the sound. The sound is good, just not great.I would recommend this to anyone looking for a similar size tv.

The picture on the TV is great, the only thing that needs to get a bit better is the sound. The sound is good, just not great.I would recommend this to anyone looking for a similar size tv.
